What Is Urispas?
Urispas (flavoxate HCl) is a synthetic urinary tract spasmolytic used to treat bladder symptoms such as frequent or urgent urination, increased nighttime urination, bladder pain, and incontinence (urine leakage). These bladder symptoms are often caused by overactive bladder, prostate enlargement, bladder infections, or irritation of the urethra. Urispas is not an antibiotic, and does not cure infections. Urispas is available in generic form.
What Are Side Effects of Urispas?
Urispas may cause serious side effects including:
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- mood changes,
- confusion,
- eye pain, and
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat
Get medical help right away, if you have any of the symptoms listed above.
Common side effects of Urispas include:
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- dry mouth,
- headache,
- drowsiness,
- dizziness,
- spinning sensation,
- blurred vision,
- nervousness, and
- fever.
Tell your doctor if you have unlikely but serious side effects of Urispas including:
- mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion), or
- eye pain.
Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
- Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; and sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out;
- Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.

Dosage for Urispas
The dose of Urispas for adults and children over 12 years of age is one or two 100 mg tablets 3 or 4 times a day. This drug is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Urispas?
Urispas may interact with other bladder or urinary medications such as darifenacin, oxybutynin, tolterodine, or solifenacin. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors.
Urispas During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
During pregnancy, Urispas should be used only when prescribed. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
